The attack rendered Aleppo International Airport inoperable, according to the Ministry of Defense.

One soldier was killed and seven others, including two civilians, were hurt in an Israeli attack on the city of Aleppo in northern Syria, according to the defense ministry of that country.

It stated that late on Monday night, Israeli forces launched “an air attack with bursts of missiles” with the intention of hitting the city’s airport and a number of other facilities.

The ministry reported that in addition to killing military personnel and civilians, the strike also damaged some property and shut down Aleppo International Airport.

The majority of the hostile missiles had been successfully intercepted, according to local media. However, it is reported that the airport’s operations have ceased because the runway has been severely damaged.

Israeli authorities have not yet responded to the missile attack.

Israel has been charged with attacking Syrian land on several occasions by Syria. Israel “carried out an air aggression” on the central Homs province, according to the Syrian defense ministry on Saturday. Three civilians were hurt in the attack, according to a military source quoted by the Syrian Arab News Agency at the time.

Even though Syrian air defense systems were able to shoot down a number of missiles, the strike nevertheless managed to destroy a number of tankers and an oil facility.

Israel seldom speaks out about its airstrikes on Syria, but in 2019 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his country has carried out “hundreds” of operations on locations on its soil, explicitly aiming to kill Hezbollah militant members. This is seen by Israel as a terrorist group that has ties to Iran, the region’s main foe.

Since Israel’s formal creation in 1948, when Syria and Israel have fought multiple significant wars against one another, the two countries have been formally at war with one another. Israel took control of the Syrian Golan Heights during the 1967 Six-Day War, and it still does.
