A close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come under fire for causing harm to Israel with just a single word, following a social media post regarding an alleged strike on an Iranian airfield. Reports of explosions over Isfahan were dismissed by Iran, while West Jerusalem chose to remain silent on the matter.
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir expressed his dissatisfaction with his country’s response by posting “Lame” in Hebrew on social media, implying that Israel was responsible for the strike and that it was ineffective.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid criticized Ben-Gvir’s actions, stating that the minister had severely damaged the country’s security, reputation, and international standing with a single tweet.
Unnamed government officials close to Netanyahu referred to Ben-Gvir as “childish and irrelevant to any discussion,” accusing him of harming Israel’s national security and suggesting that he might as well be working for the enemy.
Iranian media used Ben-Gvir’s tweet to mock Israel, with the Tasnim news agency quoting the minister’s post and highlighting that even Israeli officials found it amusing.
Iran activated its air defenses in response to a “suspicious object,” shooting down three small drones without causing any damage on the ground. Israel, known for not confirming or denying attacks on foreign soil, has vowed to “respond” to recent drone and missile strikes by Iran.
