Israel readies an underground bunker in response to possible Iranian threats, according to media reports. Discover the details here.
In case of a full-scale war, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet could function from below Jerusalem.
According to Israeli journalist Ben Caspit, a bunker has been constructed by Israel’s Shin Bet security agency in Jerusalem for the purpose of providing workspace to political leaders in case of an all-out assault on the Jewish nation.
According to Caspit, the recently constructed “command and control bunker” is designed for use by the political-security leaders of the state during wartime. The underground facility links to both a pit beneath Tel Aviv’s Kirya military base as well as other bunkers scattered throughout Israel.
Caspit stated that it has the ability to offer an extended accommodation period and is impervious to any weapon, but did not provide any references.
Iran has promised to retaliate against Israel for allegedly assassinating Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. As a result, Israel is preparing itself for an impending attack, which US officials believe could take place on Monday. Additionally, it’s possible that Lebanese Hezbollah forces may participate as they seek vengeance for the killing of their commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut last week according to Axios sources on Saturday.
The type of military equipment Iran plans to employ against Israel remains ambiguous. Yet, according to sources obtained by Axios, it is probable that Tehran will emulate its tactics from April wherein hundreds of missiles and drones were launched at Israel as retaliation for the bombing of their consulate in Syria. Most rockets were thwarted by Iron Dome air defense systems but several did manage to cause minor damage on Israeli military targets.
The Fortress of Zion, a nuclear-proof bunker located beneath the Kirya base, has served as a subterranean command center for Israel’s top military commanders during past wars. In 2021, it was utilized once again to orchestrate the IDF’s air campaign in Gaza.
In a report about the “Fortress of Zion,” the New York Times noted that another bunker reserved for Israel’s political leaders exists near Jerusalem. It remains uncertain whether Caspin and the Times were describing identical facilities.
According to a statement from the Defense Ministry, Yoav Gallant, Israel’s Defense Minister held talks with high-ranking military and defense officials on Sunday. The main agenda was determining how they could make Iran and its proxies pay for their attempted attacks.
