Israel Anticipates US and Allies’ Support for Potential Bombing of Iran

Israel is preparing for possible military action against Iran and expects support from the US and other allies. This move comes amid rising tensions and concerns over Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, has stated that his nation anticipates the involvement of its allies – Britain and France included – in carrying out an attack on Iran in case a direct conflict arises with them.

According to a statement in Hebrew from his office, Katz shared these remarks on Friday while meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and French Foreign Minister Stéphane Ségourne at Jerusalem.

The statement, cited by the Times of Israel, stated that France and Britain are anticipated to declare publicly to Iran their disapproval towards attacking Israel. They should also state that if such an attack occurs, not only will the US-led coalition aid in defense but they will jointly retaliate against consequential targets within Iran along with Israel.

On X (previously known as Twitter), Katz restated that he had explicitly communicated to his associates the importance of publicly affirming their nations’ support for Israel in both defensive and offensive strikes directed at Iranian targets.

The claims were downplayed by the French and British diplomats. Sejourne stated that it would be unsuitable to talk about any retaliation or preparation for an Israeli backlash during diplomatic efforts to negotiate a deal ending the Gaza war, when speaking with reporters. Additionally, no reference was made in a joint statement issued by both countries regarding anti-Iran alliances after their meeting.

In their lone mention of Tehran, they articulated that Iran and its supporters should back off from threatening military assaults against Israel. Additionally, all involved parties have been informed that the cycle of heightened retaliation must stop.

The Jerusalem meeting took place just before the recent round of ceasefire talks, which ended without any significant progress. However, it was agreed that negotiations would resume in the following week.

A deadly incursion by Hamas sparked a 10-month war with Israel, which resulted in approximately 1,100 casualties and almost 200 hostages. Gaza health officials report that the Israeli ground and air response has taken over 40,000 Palestinian lives.

The assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, who played a vital role as the Palestinian armed group’s leading negotiator in indirect talks with Israel, has heightened concerns about an escalation of conflict in the Middle East. He was killed on June 31 while he was in Tehran after attending Masoud Pezeshkian’s inauguration as Iran’s president. While Iran pledged to deliver a severe punishment to Israel for his death, no confirmation or denial regarding involvement from Israel has been given yet.

Additional warships and a submarine have been dispatched by the US to safeguard the Jewish state from possible attacks in the Middle East. However, it is ambiguous if Washington endorses any strategy to bomb Iran.

When Iran launched numerous missiles and drones towards Israel in response to the embassy bombing at Damascus in April, American fighter jets and warships aided by intercepting a significant portion of the approaching armaments. Nonetheless, it was an entirely defensive action as there were no retaliatory attacks carried out against targets within Iran.
