The former middleweight champion of the UFC, Israel Adesanya, entered a guilty plea on Monday to New Zealand’s accusations of driving under the influence.
On August 19, 2023, Adesanya went to a dinner party with his pals before getting into a car and was stopped. He was discovered to have 87 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in his system.
In New Zealand, 50 milligrammes is the legal maximum.
When he appeared in front of the Auckland District Court, Adesanya pleaded guilty to the crime, which carries a maximum punishment of three months in jail or a £2,189 fine.
I want to apologise to my team and family.
as well as the neighbourhood for my choice to drive home after a night of drinking at dinner.
When I was stopped, a blood test was conducted as proof. In 100 millilitres of blood, the reading was 87 milligrammes of alcohol.
Adesanya’s lawyer, Karl Trotter, requested that the judge not enter a conviction; the judge agreed.
At the January 10 sentencing hearing, Trotter stated that he will ask for a release without conviction.
