Ireti Kingibe: Natasha Akpoti and Akpabio Had Personal Relationship Before Senate

Senator Ireti Kingibe claims Natasha Akpoti and Senate President Godswill Akpabio had a personal relationship before their Senate roles, amid sexual harassment allegations. Read more on the controversy.

On Friday, Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) revealed that Natasha Akpoti, the senator from Kogi Central, had a personal relationship with Senate President Godswill Akpabio before she joined the Senate.

Kingibe, however, pointed out that unlike Natasha, the other three female senators did not have any personal relationship with Akpabio before joining the senate.

She commented on Arise TV regarding Natasha’s allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio.

Natasha accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and claimed he denied her opportunities after she rejected his advances.

Upon revealing this information, Akpabio mentioned that the other female senators have remained silent about their treatment for reasons known only to them.

However, Unoma Akpabio, the senator’s wife, dismissed these claims by asserting that the Senator from Kogi Central was merely generating content for her own personal benefit.

Nevertheless, Kingibe mentioned, “This matter concerns the Senate’s regulations. Other women have been relocated multiple times as well. Although I wasn’t present that day, I’ve learned that other men were also moved.”

I want women to understand that we need to adhere to the rules of any institution we decide to join. As for whether there is sexual harassment among them, they had a personal relationship before coming into the senate.

The three of us did not have any connection with Akpabio before our arrival.

“I don’t have a relationship with Akpabio that would make it appropriate to discuss sexual harassment issues with him. When I’m at the Senate and my colleagues, like Natasha or others in neighboring offices, aren’t available, I collect documents for them.”
