An Iranian general has announced the existence of a ‘secret weapon’ that he claims surpasses the destructive power of nuclear bombs, raising concerns and speculation about the implications for regional and global security.
Iranian Brigadier General Ebrahim Rostami has asserted that Tehran holds weapons “superior” to nuclear bombs. He made this claim following calls from Iranian lawmakers urging a review of the nation’s non-nuclear military strategy in light of threats from Israel to launch an attack on Iran.
In an interview with Iranian media on Tuesday, Rostami, the former secretary of the Development and Equipment Commission for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), expressed support for revising the doctrine. However, he noted that parliamentarians are unaware of “some aspects” due to their involvement in “highly classified and top-secret information.”
The general stated that Iran possesses “weapons far superior to nuclear arms,” suggesting this military technology had been used previously, referencing a 2019 attack on oil tankers in the United Arab Emirates.
“When Trump aimed to cut back our oil exports, several tactical operations were executed,” Rostami asserted. “I won’t disclose who was responsible, but five tankers exploded in the heavily secured port of Fujairah. They couldn’t determine the source of the attack and ended up filing a complaint with the UN. The UAE pointed fingers at us yet lacked solid evidence. These are just some examples I can share.”

Last week, a group of Iranian lawmakers urged the Supreme National Security Council to reassess the country’s defense strategy and lift the prohibition on developing nuclear weapons. This request came in response to ongoing threats from Israel to target Iran’s nuclear and oil infrastructure.
Tensions between Iran and Israel intensified after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) killed leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah, and an IRGC general last month. In response to these attacks, Iran launched a large-scale missile strike on October 1, asserting that it targeted only military facilities.
After the attack, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned of a “deadly, pinpoint accurate, and surprising” response. Meanwhile, Israeli officials have been pushing for heavy retaliatory strikes on Iranian energy infrastructures, including nuclear sites.
Tehran has called on Israel to avoid taking further disproportionate actions that escalate tensions and cautioned that Iran is fully prepared to defend itself and respond if attacked.
An Iranian source informed RT last week that if West Jerusalem chooses to target Iran’s oil infrastructure, Iran will retaliate by striking Israel’s own oil refineries. Additionally, any attacks on power plants and nuclear facilities would lead to corresponding retaliatory strikes on Israeli targets, according to the source.
