Nigeria’s October 1st independence day celebrations have been banned by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the Southeast.
Emma Powerful, a spokesperson for IPOB, asked residents of the Southeast to avoid participating in Independence Day festivities there.
Powerful alleged that the Nigerian government despises Igbos and has resisted all attempts to treat Southeast Asians fairly.
IPOB pleaded with state governors and political figures to forgo the October 1st independence day celebrations throughout the Southeast in a statement signed by Powerful.
The statement included the following passage: “The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably headed by the Supreme leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU, hereby urge on Biafrans both at home and in the diaspora to avoid participation in the Nigeria Independent day celebration on October 1, 2023.
“Every sane inhabitant of Biafra must know that Nigeria hates Biafrans, especially Ndigbo. Nigeria has disregarded all of our attempts to be treated equally with other nationals. Biafrans in Nigeria have been politically and economically marginalised. We have rejected Nigeria and her celebrations because she rejected us.
“The Nigerian Government and its people have repeatedly shown that we are not a part of them, so we must take all necessary steps to free ourselves from Nigeria’s shackles. After the charade that was the 2023 elections, even a fool would have understood that Nigeria is not for Ndigbo and Biafrans.
“We advise Eastern territory Governors and Political Leaders to skip the October 1st Independence celebration in our territory, as Nigeria’s government plans to commemorate her flag’s independence from Britain. Furthermore, we warn Biafrans not to participate in any Independence Day celebrations, whether they are held inside or outside of Biafra territory.
Therefore, on October 1st, 2023, Biafraland would not celebrate its independence nor fly Nigerian flags, according to IPOB.
