The Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, Nyesom Wike, has begun investigating the sale of federal government residences in the FCT and evaluating the Abuja land swap scheme.

The statement was made on Tuesday in Abuja by Mr. Wike, who requested that the proposal be reviewed by the Task Force on the Issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) for Mass Housing.

The minister also gave the task group instructions to find out who sold federal government assets in Abuja and to provide an update on the situation.

Remember that the minister had established a Task Force on the issue of C of O for mass housing and the recovery of costs related to land use violations on November 14.

Given the additional tasks, the minister, who had requested that the task force complete the assignment in one month, extended the deadline to two months.

By participating in the land swap project, land can be exchanged for infrastructure provided by the private sector.

By building and finishing access roads to the districts, the main objective is to essentially open up new districts in the Federal Capital Territory.

Stakeholders have expressed several worries about the programme, according to Wike, who emphasised the necessity of reviewing it.

“There are a lot of grievances over the sale of some homes and the abandonment of others.

Tell us whose houses were sold, and where the paperwork is kept. Allow them to present the payment receipt to us.

“Not just the federal government buildings, but also the newly constructed and deserted city homes.

“The task force will now last for two months instead of the one month that was originally given,” Wike stated due to the increased duty.

Michael Chinda, Senior Special Assistant to Wike on Lands, Urban and Regional Planning, is leading the task force, while Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, is serving as Secretary.

The directors of the departments of development control, land administration, and surveying and mapping are among the other members of the task group.

The directors of AGIS, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, and the Department of Mass Housing are the others.
