Inter Milan have secured their 20th Serie A title for the 2023-24 season by defeating their rivals Milan in the Derby della Madonnina last night. This victory allows them to proudly wear two stars on their jersey, symbolizing their remarkable achievement in Italian football.

The race for the Scudetto was intense between the two San Siro cousins, with both teams having 19 titles before the start of this season. However, it was Inter who emerged victorious, clinching the title ahead of Milan due to their head-to-head victory in the derby match.

This triumph holds special significance for Simone Inzaghi, as it marks his first Scudetto as a coach. Inzaghi, who previously achieved success with both Inter and Lazio in the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, can now add the Serie A title to his list of accolades.

Throughout the season, Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri dominated the league table, spending the majority of the campaign in the top position. They briefly dropped to second place after a 2-2 draw with Bologna in Week 8 but quickly regained their momentum.

While Inter may not be able to match the record-breaking 102 points achieved by Antonio Conte’s Juventus, their campaign has been nothing short of remarkable. With 27 wins, five draws, and only one defeat, they have showcased their strength and consistency on the field.

The only loss suffered by Inter during the season was a narrow 2-1 defeat at home against Sassuolo on September 27. Despite this setback, they remained resilient and determined, ultimately securing the coveted Serie A title.

Inter’s rich history in Italian football dates back to their first Scudetto win in the 1909-10 season. Their most recent title came under the guidance of Antonio Conte in the 2020-21 campaign, further solidifying their status as one of Italy’s most successful clubs.

Among their 20 Scudetti, one title stands out as controversial. In the 2005-06 season, Inter finished third in the table. However, due to the Calciopoli scandal, both winners Juventus and runners-up Milan had points deducted, resulting in Inter being awarded the title.

This decision has sparked debates among football enthusiasts, with some arguing that the title should have been left unassigned, similar to the 2004-05 season.
