Inspector General Vows to Rescue All Nigerians in Captivity
The Inspector General of Police has pledged a renewed commitment to rescue all Nigerians held in captivity, focusing on intensified security operations and coordinated efforts nationwide.
Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police stated on Tuesday that all Nigerians held captive throughout the nation will be rescued securely and without harm.
While appraising the effectiveness of recent operations that led to the successful rescue of 20 medical students and seven others, Egbetokun made this statement at Force Headquarters.
On Tuesday, the Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi issued a statement containing this information.
On August 15th, the abduction of medical students spurred numerous demands from Nigerian citizens and multiple organizations to ensure their safe return.
The students, accompanied by seven additional individuals, were successfully rescued on Friday night. The operation resulted in the death of one high-ranking kidnapper and the apprehension of two others.
On Sunday, the Vice Chancellors received custody of the rescued students.
According to Adejobi, the IG made a commitment to spare no effort in fulfilling his promise of rescuing all hostages detained throughout the nation.
In addition, he stated that Egbetokun is dedicated to maintaining a professional and citizen-oriented demeanor among the police officers who serve under his leadership.
Adejobi stated that the Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, is committed to creating a competent and lawful force with an emphasis on service delivery and friendliness towards citizens. The IGP assures all Nigerians held captive throughout the country will be safely rescued by his team. This promise shall come to fruition as we remain dedicated to fulfilling it.”
Additionally, Adejobi remarked that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, along with other security agencies and local communities received gratitude from the IG for their aid in freeing the medical students.
According to him, the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu received glowing praise from the Inspector General of Police for his unwavering support towards Nigeria’s security agencies in rescuing citizens and children.
The IGP recognizes the NSA’s commitment to supporting security personnel in carrying out their constitutional duties of protecting Nigerians’ lives and property, as well as maintaining law and order nationwide.
Likewise, the Inspector General of Police expresses genuine appreciation to the officers associated with the National Security Adviser’s office, military personnel, other security forces, and local communities who actively joined in on rescue operations along with similar efforts nationwide. Their commendable contributions are instrumental in securing Nigeria’s safety and that of its inhabitants.
Adejobi stated that Egbetokun encouraged citizens to actively participate in national security and development initiatives, as part of the effort towards an inclusive policing strategy.
The purpose of this call is to encourage a transition towards contemporary law enforcement practices and support the enhancement of Nigeria’s socioeconomic and political status. Additionally, the IGP emphasizes citizen volunteerism and recommends an active approach concerning social reorganization as well as security measures in the nation.
He added that it is crucial to foster collaboration among all parties involved, such as the Police, other security agencies and government entities at every level. This will bring about a new Nigeria marked by improved national security and efficient governance for everyone.
