A thorough investigation into the obscure circumstances surrounding the death of Police Inspector Inspector Atobaloye Taiye, who was on Quick Intervention special duty from the Oke-Onigbin Divisional Headquarters in Kwara State to the Zone 8 Command Headquarters in Lokoja, which covers Kogi and Kwara States, has been requested by the Inspector-General of Police.

According to a statement made by the Police Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday, details from the Zonal Headquarters report showed that the inspector who was posted on April 1st, 2023, reported on April 11th and was immediately posted as part of the team manning the main gate of the Zonal Command Headquarters.

Inspector Atobaloye, however, neglected to report to the duty post and disappeared for nine days, only to reappear on April 19, 2023, in an inebriated state, according to the force headquarters’ spokesman.

He was ultimately found to be in default and imprisoned for being absent from work and intoxicated.

The statement said, “He apparently fell ill while in custody and was transferred to the Police Clinic before being directed to the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja, where he ultimately passed away.

The Inspector General of Police expressed his condolences to the officer’s friends, family, and other close associates.

However, he instructed the Kogi State police command’s Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Unit to launch an investigation and perform a postmortem examination on the corpse in order to ascertain the cause(s) of his demise.
