The Katsina State Government said on Monday that it had reached an agreement on plans to give special allowances to Friday Mosque clerics, their assistants, Mua’dhins (callers of prayer), and Ward Heads in order to support them in the struggle against insecurity.

However, the intended stipend for Christian clerics was not mentioned by the state governor, Dikko Radda, who made this announcement after establishing the Steering Committees for the Katsina Community Watch Corps, or KCSWC.

The governor was cited as adding that the committee would work with other security officers to find bandits around the state in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ibrahim Kaula-Mohammed.

He claimed that representatives of several security agencies, the council chairman, district heads, divisional police officers, and others served on the steering committees for each of the state’s 34 local government areas.

Others, according to him, include two business representatives and representatives from several religious groups.

The Governor stated that the committee would oversee and assess the KCSWC’s performance in their regions and provide regular updates to the Commissioner of Internal Security.

Prior to this, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu-Danmusa, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, had stated that since the establishment of KCSWC, insecurity had gradually decreased throughout the State.

In their individual speeches, the Emir of Katsina’s delegates, Alhaji Aminu Nuhu-Abdulkadir and retired Justice Saddik Abdullahi-Mahuta, praised the governor for taking action to address the state’s security situation.

Both Abdullahi-Mahuta, the District Head of Malumfashi, and Nuhu-Abdulkadir, the District Head of Rimi, promised the committee that the traditional rulers would continue to support it.
