Insecurity: CDS calls for cooperation among service heads and commanders
Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), advised service heads and military operation commanders on Friday to encourage intelligence sharing and cooperation both within and across joint task forces.
In Abuja, at the start of the Joint Task Force Commanders Conference hosted by the Defence Headquarters, Musa made the announcement.
He claimed that the conference’s focus on “Rejigging Defence Headquarters led operations” highlighted how crucial cooperation and synergy are among the many branches of the country’s armed forces.
He believed that in a time when the security environment was continually changing, it had become crucial for the military to modify its policies and tactics in order to effectively fight emerging threats.
The CDS stated that through encouraging a collaborative mindset, “we can capitalise on our collective strengths and capabilities to safeguard our nation.”
“We face a variety of threats, ranging from insurgency, terrorism, and cybercrime to transnational organised crime, separatist movements, and intercommunal conflicts,” he continued.
“Each of these issues requires a thorough and diversified approach, one that includes not only military action but also political, economic, and social components.
“We must stress the value of intelligence sharing and cooperation both within and across our joint task forces if we are to effectively handle these threats.
“Timely and reliable information transmission is essential to running successful operations.
“We can improve situational awareness, decision-making processes, and promote seamless coordination among our forces by tearing down silos and encouraging an information sharing culture.”
