Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State emphasized that the primary obstacle in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria is the lack of political will.
During the Townhall on Security on Channels Television to commemorate Nigeria’s 25th Democracy Day, Governor Lawal highlighted the results of a poll conducted by Channels Television, where 82 percent of Nigerians identified corruption and political will as the major challenges for security agencies in addressing insecurity in the country.
Governor Lawal reiterated the importance of political will in addressing security challenges, stating that without it, resolving these issues would be difficult.
In addition to political will, the poll also revealed that 10.4 percent of respondents cited lack of intelligence as a challenge, 3.7 percent mentioned lack of funding, and 3 percent believed it was due to lack of manpower.
As one of the states in the North-Western region facing attacks from terrorists and bandits, Governor Lawal has been vocal in calling for an end to the violence.
Despite being the chief security officer of Zamfara State, Governor Lawal expressed his frustration at not having full control over security operations in the state, as security outfits take their instructions from their superiors rather than the governors.
He expressed a desire for more control over security matters to make a significant difference in addressing security challenges.
