The 70-year-olds’ interest in replacing the Glazers, who are located in the United States, has not yet received a response from United.
The British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe’s company, Ineos, officially put in a bid for Manchester United on Tuesday.
Ratcliffe wants to make a deal, and the Glazer family, who owns United, said in November that they would be willing to listen to offers for the Premier League team.
Ratcliffe has always been a fan of United. Last year, he tried to buy Chelsea for £4.25 billion ($5.2 billion), but failed. He has been connected to the club from Old Trafford for a long time.
A spokeswoman for Ineos told the BBC, “We have formally entered the process.”
Ratcliffe is looking for another Premier League behemoth after his failed takeover of Chelsea when Roman Abramovich sold the Blues to American entrepreneur Todd Boehly and his group.

Ratcliffe is one of the richest people in the country. He was born in Failsworth, which is in Greater Manchester. He might be more popular with United fans than the Glazers, who have had to deal with fan protests during their troubled rule.
Due to the team’s recent struggles on the field, fans have been very angry with the Glazers, who bought the team with borrowed money in 2005.
They have long been accused of pulling more money out than they have put in in terms of transfer funding, and their purchase of United also left the club with enormous debts.
By backing the failed European Super League plan in April 2021, which would have led to United joining a separate league, the Glazers made United fans even more angry.
In November, United said that the board would “look into all strategic options,” which could include a new investment in the club, a sale, or other deals involving the company.
United last won a major prize six years ago and hasn’t won the Premier League since 2013.
United finished in sixth place in the Premier League last year, which was terrible. However, manager Erik ten Hag has given the team new life, and they are now in fourth place after beating Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday.
Ineos is eager to grow its sports portfolio, which currently includes ownership of the cycling team Ineos Grenadiers (formerly Team Sky), the French club Nice, and the Swiss team FC Lausanne-Sport.
After the country’s sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, suggested in November that there “might” be interest in buying United and Liverpool, who are both up for sale, Ratcliffe may face competition from Saudi Arabian investors.
Raine Group, the American financial group that handled the sale of Chelsea, is advising United, which is estimated to be worth more than £5 billion.
