The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announces the resumption of nationwide voter registration starting February 2025.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will recommence the nationwide continuous voter registration (CVR) in February 2025.
It mentioned that the exercise would begin at the LGA level and subsequently expand to registration areas.
In a memo dated November 20, 2024, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the Commission’s Secretary, instructed Resident Electoral Commissioners to organize certain arrangements for the exercise.
Please provide the following information to ensure proper preparation for the exercise: The status of INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) and its accessories in the state.
“Status of color and black-and-white heavy-duty printers, as well as the availability of CVR forms/materials.”
The commission is thinking about starting the exercise at the Local Government Area (LGA) level and then expanding it to cover the Registration Area (RA) level.
The state offices are anticipated to identify and select staff members who will serve as voter registration officials.
“The memo requested that the information on uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) be prepared to aid in printing the Register of uncollected PVCs for display during the exercise.”
Remember that in July 2022, the electoral commission halted the CVR process in preparation for the general election of 2023.
However, it carried out voter registration activities in states where off-cycle elections occurred.
