INEC sets deadline for submission of names for Ondo Gubernatorial election
The deadline for political parties participating in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election to submit their candidates’ names has been set for May 20, 2024, by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, revealed this information during a consultative meeting with political party leaders in preparation for the 2024 Edo and Ondo States governorship elections.
Yakubu emphasized that parties must finalize and submit their candidates’ names before the specified deadline of May 20, with no possibility of an extension.
The closure of the portal for candidates in the forthcoming Ondo governorship election will occur on this date, as outlined by the INEC Chairman.

INEC boss highlighted that political parties in Ondo State have recently completed their primaries, with 18 parties conducting primaries under the Commission’s supervision.
He reminded parties that they have one week left until the candidate nomination deadline, which is at 6.00 pm on Monday, May 20, 2024, when the portal will automatically close.
Political parties are urged to strictly adhere to this deadline, as they have been given 23 days, over three weeks, from the end of primaries to prepare and submit the list of only two candidates (Governorship candidate and running mate) to the Commission.
The INEC Chairman reiterated that there will be no extension of time beyond the specified deadline.
