The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied rumours that it is looking into Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential contender.
Festus Okoye, National Commissioner for INEC and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, released a statement on Saturday stating that “a news release allegedly issued by the Commission has been trending online since yesterday, Friday, November 11, 2022.”
It states that the Commission has opened an investigation into a criminal forfeiture case involving one of the presidential candidates in the upcoming general election and is working with a court in the United States of America to pursue it in order to determine whether our policies or the Electoral Act of 2022 may have been broken.
“We would like to emphasize unequivocally that the Commission neither issued the aforementioned news release nor is it taking the alleged course of action. It is completely bogus and the product of troublemakers.
The Commission posts press releases to the INEC Press Corps portal, which is simultaneously shared on our website and through our official social media accounts. The news announcement should be ignored, the statement continued.
