The final list of candidates for the upcoming by-election in Nigeria on February 3, 2024, has been officially released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This announcement was made by INEC National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, who stated that the by-elections were necessitated by the death or resignation of members of the National and State Houses of Assembly.
The elections will take place in nine states across the country, covering two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies. The timetable, schedule of activities, and personal particulars of the candidates have been published in INEC state offices, as well as on the commission’s website and social media platforms.
Nigerians are urged to carefully scrutinize the personal details and academic credentials of the candidates, and any aspirant who believes that a candidate provided false information during their party primaries can challenge the nomination in a Federal high Court.
It is important to note that this publication only applies to the upcoming bye-elections, as they are fresh elections with new candidates nominated by political parties.
