INEC Presents Certificate of Return to Edo Governor-elect Okpebholo

INEC has officially presented the certificate of return to Edo Governor-elect Okpebholo, marking the formal recognition of his election victory.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and winner of the Edo State gubernatorial election, Monday Okpebholo, has officially received the certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On Thursday, the presentation was held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

After receiving 291,667 votes, Okpebholo was proclaimed the victor of the election that was conducted on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

With 247,274 votes, he defeated Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was his closest opponent. Olumide Akpata, the candidate for the Labour Party, garnered 22,763 votes, placing her third out of the 14 contenders.

With almost 10 of the 18 local government areas in Edo State won by the APC candidate, the outcome was resounding, with Ighodalo of the PDP only narrowly winning the remaining councils.

Furthermore, the APC strengthened its hold on power in the state by taking the lead in two of the three most important senatorial districts.
