INEC meets with 18 political parties in 2023 and presents the voter list
The commission announced that it does not plan to move the election date and released a voter list with 93,469,008 names for the general elections in 2023.
Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), met with the 18 political party leaders on Wednesday at INEC’s Abuja headquarters.
The chairman of the commission gave the parties the 2023 voter list at the meeting, which was the first of the year. This was mandated under the 2022 Electoral Act.
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, and New Nigeria People’s Party are among those present at the gathering.
For the general elections in 2023, the commission produced a voter registration list with 93,469,008 names on it.
The voter distribution also shows that there are 49,054,162 registered male voters and 44,414,846 registered female voters.
Young people between the ages of 18 and 34 made up 37,060,399 of the total number of registered voters, or 39.65% of the total, while persons over the age of 50 made up 17,700,270 of the total, or 18.94% of the registered voters.
The chairman of INEC said that, thanks to the presentation of the voter register, the commission has done 11 of the 14 things that were planned for the general elections in 2023.
He claims that all other arrangements, such as the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards, are proceeding smoothly.
In light of this, the commission does not plan to move the election day.
