This remark was made in Akure on Wednesday by the state’s resident electoral commissioner, Mrs. Olutoyin Babalola. She stated that non-sensitive documents had been transferred to the two Local Government Areas from INEC headquarters.
Speaking outside the INEC office in Akure during a two-day training session for Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Babalola stated that 329 polling places would have enough Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines set up for the election.
The speaker stated that in preparation for the election, training sessions for Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers will also take place this Friday. Additionally, she mentioned that eight parties had submitted candidates to run for the federal constituency seat that Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, a minister appointed by President Bola Tinubu, left vacant.
Action Alliance’s Aliyu Ajewole, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Ehindero Ifeoluwa, the All Progressive Grand Alliance’s (APGA) Adesuyi Victoria Alaba, and the Action Peoples Party’s Ajagunla Olanrewaju A are among the parties and their candidates.
The others are Ogunleye Muritala Idowu of the Social Democratic Party, Olalekan Bada of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akadiri Mukaila Olusola of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, and Abass Arisekola of the Labour Party.
She claimed that Babalola had confirmed that sufficient security protection had been provided for the movement of staff, non-sensitive, and sensitive goods to the polling places on election day.
According to the REC, the commission was collaborating with law enforcement and other security organisations to guarantee a peaceful by-election in the state.
