On Wednesday, tragedy struck in Zaria, Kaduna State, when an electrical disaster left no less than 11 people dead and numerous others injured.

According to the Kaduna Electric Company, the incident was caused by a high-tension line snap on a low-tension line, which led to an overvoltage supply.

The 11 people who died were from communities near the Gwargwaje area of Zaria Local Government Area, according to the Zaria office of the Kaduna State Fire Service, which confirmed the incident. It also stated that a house was burned to the ground and some commercial buildings were destroyed in the fire incident, which happened around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Alhaji Bature Aliyu, the community’s leader, told reporters that the fire had damaged every home in the three villages, as well as the police barracks, the new layout of Unguwar Major Aliyu, and the new Kauran Juli layout.

He claimed that when the electricity was fully restored late at night, it immediately caught fire and spread to the nearby neighborhoods. All of the high-tension, service, and transformer lines were on fire. Up until the point at which the source of the power was cut off, everywhere you touched was shocking.

In a statement, Kaduna Electric’s Head of Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, expressed sadness over the tragedy and said that a preliminary inquiry showed that the incident was caused by a high-tension line snap on a low-tension line, which led to an excessive voltage supply.

“In order to prevent more harm, the source feeder was opened right away in an emergency. Kaduna Electric offers its sincere condolences to the families of those who suffered losses as a result of the event.

The Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, was thanked for helping everyone manage the incident’s effects.
