Less than 48 hours had passed since an attack in which a shooter killed 11 people at a Lunar New Year event near Los Angeles, California.
Four people were killed at a mushroom farm and three at a trucking company on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, a city located about 48 kilometres (30 miles) south of San Francisco, according to San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President Dave Pine on Monday.
Although Pine said that the suspect worked for one of the firms, it was not immediately clear how the places were related. He referred to the suspect as a “disgruntled employee.”
Just before 5 o’clock local time (01:00 o’clock GMT), the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that a suspect had been taken into custody.
The sheriff’s office tweeted that it was responding to a shooting with many injuries near Highway 92 and Half Moon Bay city limits.
At this point, the neighbourhood is not under any continuous threat, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officers were seen arresting a man without incident on local television.Police personnel were also seen gathering evidence from a site with numerous greenhouses in aerial television shots.
Sheriff of San Mateo County Christina Corpus stated that no motive has been established as of yet for the shooting.

Chunli Zhao, a 67-year-old resident of Half Moon Bay, was identified as the suspect by Corpus. Zhao was “brought into custody without incident” after being discovered in his car in the parking area of the sheriff’s substation in Half Moon Bay, according to Corpus. In the suspect’s car, a semi-automatic weapon was discovered.
Rob Reynolds of Al Jazeera reported from Los Angeles and said one victim of the shooting was receiving serious care. Reynolds claimed that a member of the neighbourhood council had identified the victims as “ethnic Chinese” agricultural labourers who were employed at both the mushroom farm and, it seemed, the trucking company.
Just before 2:30 p.m. (22:30 gmt), the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office initially got reports of a shooting. At the first scene, they discovered four victims who had died from gunshot wounds and a fifth person who had been injured. Soon later, police discovered three more victims dead from gunshot wounds at a different location about 8 kilometres (5 miles) away, according to a news release from Captain Eamonn Allen.
11 individuals were killed late on Saturday at a Lunar New Year celebration at a ballroom dance facility in Monterey Park, Southern California, leading up to the massacre.
Immediately after the news of the latest fatalities surfaced, California Governor Gavin Newsom rushed to Twitter. Newsom had been in Monterey Park when that horrific shooting occurred.
“I am at a hospital meeting with mass shooting victims when I am called aside to receive information about another shooting.” Half Moon Bay, this time. tragedy on top of tragedy
In a statement, Dave Pine further stated, “We are sickened by today’s tragedy in Half Moon Bay.”
“We haven’t even had a chance to mourn the victims of the horrific massacre in Monterey Park.” The use of guns must end, he emphasised.
“We cannot accept the status quo.”
Another supervisor, Ray Mueller, stated in the statement that mental health services and counselling are being organised for the community.
According to the AP/USA Today database on mass homicides in the US, the shooting in Monterey Park was the fifth mass shooting to occur in the US this month and the bloodiest since 21 people were slain in a school in Uvalde, Texas.
In 2022, there were 647 shootings in the US involving four or more casualties, according to the website Gun Violence Archive.
