During an operation in the Toto Local Government Area (LGA), the Nasarawa State Police Command freed 30 people who had been taken hostage.
This information was given to journalists in a statement released on Friday by DSP Ramhan Nansel, who is the state’s police public relations officer (PPRO).
According to the PPRO, agents went to a forest in the local government area after hearing that some people were being held hostage there and were able to free the people.
“On January 12, we learned that kidnappers had been spotted at Sardauna Forest in Toto LGA, where they were holding some hostages.
“A joint operation was conducted by members of the Command in cooperation with the Miyetti Allah Vigilante Group of the Toto Local Government Area in response to the unwholesome development.
“The kidnappers were pursued to their hiding place in Sardauna Forest; upon spotting the agents, the thugs scattered in disarray deep within the forest.”
As a result, 30 abduction victims—20 men and 10 women—were freed without injury and transferred to the hospital for a checkup. They will meet up with their families again after a debriefing, the police spokeswoman added.
Nansel said that the state’s chief of police, Maiyaki Muhammed-Baba, had ordered a constant search of the forest.
He added that the police officers of the command and the Miyetti Allah Vigilante Group had received praise from the CP for a job well done.
According to Nansel, the CP gave the public the assurance that the operation to purge the neighborhood of criminal elements would continue.
So, he asked people to share information about criminals and what they are doing in their communities so that police could act quickly.
