Three employees of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency who were on duty were ambushed and killed on Friday in Aba by a group of alleged cult members.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent in Aba received confirmation of the event on Friday from SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Abia Police Command.

According to Ogbonna, the deceased were at work when the tragedy occurred at SAMEC Junction along Faulks Road in Ariaria International Market, Aba.

Around one o’clock, he claimed, the attackers—who were clothed in all black—performed the assault.

With machetes, daggers, and axes, the alleged cultists attacked their victims and caused many wounds.

He claimed that the three males, including Stanley Ejike and the other two who have not yet been named, died as a result of their numerous wounds.

In relation to the incident, he stated that no one had been arrested as of yet.

In order to help the police find the culprits and apprehend them, he made an appeal to the people of the business metropolis who could have useful information that could help track down the offenders.

Whatever the reason for the murder, the command’s spokesman denounced it.

He insisted that no one has the authority to kill a fellow citizen under any pretext.

In particular now that tempers are frayed due to the economic hardship, he cautioned Nigerians working in sensitive economic sectors to be discrete in the performance of their tasks.

He suggested that exercising restraint could prevent needless assaults and murders.
