According to the statement, the states of Edo, Ondo, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Taraba, Benue, Rivers, Plateau, and Nasarawa reported cases.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Lassa fever has claimed the lives of no less than 142 persons in 23 states since the beginning of the year.
On Tuesday, this information was made public via the agency’s official website, which revealed that these 23 states had at least one verified case across 97 local government areas.
In accordance with the study, Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi “reported 71% of all verified Lassa fever cases.”
And six states with verified cases of Lassa fever contributed 29% of the reports. Ondo reported 32%, Edo reported 29%, and Bauchi reported 10% of the 71% verified cases.
There was an increase in the number of suspected cases as compared to the report from the previous year.
“Compared to what was reported for the same period in 2022, there were more suspected instances.”
It also showed that young people were in danger of contracting the illness.
The age range most commonly impacted is 21 to 30 years (range: 1 to 93 years; median age: 32 years).
