Impersonator of Singer Flavour Jailed for Defrauding US Woman

Flavour’s impersonator has been sentenced to jail for defrauding an American woman, following a court ruling.

Courage Ipaka, who impersonated singer Flavour, has been given a two-year prison sentence by Lagos’ federal high court.

It has been reported that Ipaka cheated Yvelte M. Thompson, a US resident, out of $53,000 by assuming the identity of Flavour.

On Tuesday, Ipaka was investigated by Azibagiri Dan Ekpar who works as an investigator for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to Ekpar, the accused made a commitment to arrange performances in America and received compensation from the complainant through their Bitcoin accounts.

Flavour was invited in response to a petition from Eyitayo Tolulope Abiodun and others, representing the victim, who accused him of wrongdoing. He maintained his innocence during questioning.

After conducting an investigation, we uncovered that the culprit responsible for the crime was Ipaka Courage from Benin City. In his confession, the accused stated that he posed as Flavour and swindled $53,000 from a U.S. citizen in 2021.

The funds were wired using Bitcoin wallets and later converted to Naira, which was then credited into his Access Bank account.

Through manager’s cheques from Zenith and Access Bank, the defendant was found to have N7.9 million recovered.

Ipaka was sentenced by the overseeing judge, Dehinde Dipeolu, to either serve two years in prison or pay a fine of N2 million.

Furthermore, he surrendered a total of N7.9 million to Thompson as forfeiture.
