The recent disturbances in the Rivers State House of Assembly around the impeachment process of Governor Similaye Fubara have prompted the Nigerian Police Force to launch an inquiry.

According to OBASANJONEWS24, while Speaker Martin Amaewhule’s delegation of the House members delivered Fubara an impeachment notice and fled for safety, tear gas was being fired outside the complex.

The governor said he had done nothing to warrant the Assembly’s impeachment procedure, addressing his supporters who had protested the move outside the Assembly Complex. This occurred a few hours after Sunday night’s Assembly Complex fire.

The police declared:

The security situation at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex is something we are aware of. The issue is being actively handled by the Rivers State Police Command. We’ve started a thorough inquiry to find out the details, and we’ll start taking swift action against the guilty parties. Watch this space for more developments.
