Supporters of the impeached Lagos Speaker, Obasa, have gathered in Ikeja for a grand welcome, showing solidarity amid his political challenges.

On Saturday morning, Mudashiru Obasa’s supporters assembled at the Speaker’s Lodge on Joel Ogunnaike Street in GRA Ikeja, Lagos, eagerly awaiting the return of the reinstated former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Witnesses noted that the crowd, clad in vests and caps supporting Obasa, sought to stage a “heroic welcome” for the former speaker after his recent removal by majority vote in the House.

While Obasa was out of the country during the impeachment proceedings, Mojisola Meranda, formerly the deputy speaker, took over his position. Since then, Meranda has led two sessions of the Assembly in Obasa’s absence.

A local resident expressed astonishment, remarking, “I didn’t anticipate them being granted access to the lodge.”

Security personnel, including police officers, were sent to the area to maintain order and avert any disturbances. At the time of reporting, Obasa had not yet reached the location.
