There is obvious tension in Imo State as a result of the Imo State Police Command’s invitation to the Imo Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its chairman, Engr. Charles Ugwu, to host former governor Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, his deputy Hon. Gerald Irona, and House of Representatives candidate Ikenga Ugochiyere on Thursday.

Ukachi Opara, the state’s deputy commissioner of police in charge of administration, wrote a letter of invitation on Wednesday and sent it to Ugwu, asking him to appear on Thursday with the three leaders of the opposition parties at the state criminal bureau of the police command.

The request letter, dated March 13, 2023, addressed to the PDP chairman and bearing the subject “Re: a case of murder, kidnapping, and arson” on Wednesday, states that the State Intelligence Bureau at the Imo State Police Command in Owerri is looking into the case mentioned above, which involves several prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Imo State chapter.
