Imo poll: LP’s Achonu, expresses no intention to congratulate Uzodimma
The All Progressives Congress candidate Hope Uzodimma won the governorship of Imo State last Saturday, and Athan Achonu, the candidate for the Labour Party, has refuted allegations that he went to congratulate her.
In a statement made public on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Chibuikem Diala, Achonu declared that he was the true winner of the contest and that praising Uzodimma was “wishful thinking that can never happen.”
“A script from the pit of hell and could only be the handwork of evil minds, which this government is well known for,” the statement said in reference to the rumours.
“The governor and his bootlickers are spreading fake news claiming that his opponents in last Saturday’s election paid him a congratulatory visit, after foisting the worst electoral heist on Imo State,” Diala stated.
The congrats article, in his words, was “childish and very poorly written.”
To be clear, Senator Achonu has now requested for a review and rejection of the results, vehemently rejecting the outcome announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
Diala stated, “He had also held a joint press briefing with Samuel Anyanwu (SamDaddy), the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, and insisted that the governorship election results must be reviewed or cancelled, warning that the people might revolt unless the INEC did so.”
