Imo police make arrest in robbery case, recover weapon and ammo

The Imo State Police Command has reported the apprehension of a well-known armed robbery suspect, Izea John Chukwuebuka, aged 23, hailing from Asa Community Ohaji.

The arrest took place while the suspect was en route to Alaba International Market in Owerri, according to Police spokesman Henry Okoye’s statement released on Friday.

During the arrest, law enforcement officials were able to seize a locally made pistol and two rounds of live ammunition from the suspect.

This successful operation was carried out in collaboration with local vigilantes on April 9, 2024, as detailed in the statement provided by the police.

The suspect, Izea John Chukwuebuka, confessed to his involvement in various robberies targeting unsuspecting individuals at Alaba International Market, Douglas Market, Tetlow, and other commercial areas within the state.

Additionally, he admitted to having a network in Ama Hausa Market that assists him in exchanging stolen goods for financial gain.

The authorities are currently working diligently to apprehend the remaining members of the suspect’s syndicate, particularly those involved in receiving stolen items, selling them, and manufacturing locally made firearms.

Following the completion of a comprehensive investigation, the suspect will be transferred to the state headquarters for further processing and is expected to face prosecution for his criminal activities.
