In Imo State’s local government elections on Saturday, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won a landslide victory, taking control of all 27 chairmanships and 305 councillorships among the state’s 27 local government areas.

At its Owerri offices on Sunday, the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) declared the results.

Charles Ejiogu, the head of ISIEC, acknowledged the APC’s victory in the polls but withheld the precise number of votes received by each of the rival parties.

He gave the public the assurance that comprehensive results from all 4,758 voting places and 305 electoral wards will be released when they were ready. Ejiogu complimented the decorum shown by political parties and stakeholders and expressed satisfaction with the election’s peaceful nature.

He acknowledged that 19 registered political parties had participated in the polls and stated, “All the details of the results will be made available accordingly.”

The elections were notable for voter disinterest despite the orderly process; there have been claims that voting was absent from numerous local government regions.

This came after the state’s Inter-Party Advisory Council decided earlier in the week to abstain from the polls.

The newly elected Chairman of Aboh Mbaise, Iheukwumere Alaribe, emphasized his commitment to serving with the fear of God and pledged to lead with openness and inclusivity.

Even though the election results are officially official, ISIEC advised any parties that felt wronged to take their grievances to court.

Many Imo State residents are anticipating more developments in the wake of the elections due to the poor voter turnout and opposition boycott, which have sparked concerns about the state’s overall political climate.
