Sen. Athan Achonu, the governorship candidate for the Labour Party in Imo, has urged the state’s residents to put aside any reservations and support him.

Achonu responded to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the identity of the real LP candidate for the Imo governorship race by making the call while speaking to reporters on Thursday in Abuja.

According to NAN, the Supreme Court rejected Mr. Basil Maduka’s petition against the LP about its candidate in the Imo state governorship election on the basis of locus standi.

The appellant was also criticised by a five-judge panel chaired by Justice Iyang Okoro for misusing the legal system and taking up unnecessary court time in lower courts.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Joseph Ukaegbu, alias Ikenga, a candidate for Lamidi Apapa, were the other two respondents in the case. The Supreme Court also denied Ikenga’s motion for a consequential order.

Achonu said, “With this, I want to call on the people of Imo to remove any doubt and work for our success,” but Achonu did not stop there.

“The people of Imo desire change, therefore I’ve been focusing on my efforts.

“Glory to God, we have the Supreme Court. I call on Imo folks to turn out in large numbers for the election,” he stated.

Additionally, he urged journalists to avoid endorsing false information, particularly when it was spread on social media.

When Achonu was elected, he vowed to lead a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, setting an example for the rest of Nigeria.

All of the cases brought by the LP side led by Apapa have been dismissed, according to the National Legal Adviser of the LP, Mr. Kehinde Edun.

According to Edun, Achonu’s candidature was never in dispute because neither a restraining order nor a court order requiring INEC to strike his name from the ballot were in place.

According to NAN, the judges of the Supreme Court declared on Thursday that Achonu had won the legitimately held primaries that were overseen by the INEC and administered by Julius Abure and the party’s legitimate leadership.
