The Independent National Electoral Commission has addressed rumours circulating that it declined to provide certified authentic copies of the November 11 governorship polls in Imo State to Athan Achonu, the governorship candidate for the Labour Party.

On Monday, INEC announced this on its verified X handle.

According to OBASANJONEWS24, Achonu claimed that INEC had refused his party’s request for certified true copies of the election records.

However, INEC claimed to be gathering all the paperwork to determine the amount of payment.

The electoral authority posted: “The Imo State Labour Party has said that INEC has not provided them with certified true copies of the election materials. They would need clarification on this matter. The attention of the management of the Commission in Imo State has been called to these remarks.

Nonetheless, INEC notifies the LP that it has received their application for the certification of papers and has been in continuous communication with them, letting them know that the legal department will provide an estimate of the cost for each of the 33 things they have requested to be certified.

“The Commission is gathering all the required paperwork in order to estimate the cost and authorise payment. Management will make every effort to provide CTCs, as it is well aware of the parties’ right to request them.

OBASANJONEWS24 reminds readers that the All Progressives Party’s Hope Uzodinma was proclaimed the victor of the governorship election in Imo state on November 11 by INEC.
