Nigerian immigration authorities have apprehended social media influencer Bobrisky at the Seme border while attempting to flee the country, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reported the arrest of Idris Okuneye, a controversial crossdresser popularly known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border.

In a statement released on Monday night, the Service announced that the social media sensation had been arrested while attempting to escape from Nigeria.

A spokesperson for the Service, DCI KT Udo, identified Bobrisky as a person of interest due to recent public concerns.

Udo mentioned that the individual is currently being interrogated and will be transferred to the appropriate authorities for further action.

The Service assures the public that it will remain courteous and professional while fulfilling its legal duty of overseeing the country’s borders.

Martins Otse, a blogger widely recognized as VeryDarkMan, claimed in viral videos that certain officers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accepted ₦15 million from Bobrisky. This payment was reportedly made during his naira spraying incident in April to persuade the anti-corruption agency to dismiss money laundering charges against him.

Subsequently, a court sentenced the crossdresser to six months in prison, and he was released in August.

The blogger further claimed that Bobrisky spent several million naira to obtain a favorable spot in prison.

Bobrisky has consistently refuted the claims, prompting both the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to initiate investigations into these accusations made by the blogger.

The House of Representatives also got involved, inviting those concerned for an investigation, while the Federal Government suspended several senior NCoS officers.

On September 30, 2024, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, established a committee to investigate claims of serious misconduct against the NCoS.

The panel submitted its report on Monday, stating that the social media sensation completed his six-month jail term in prison. However, he was granted several privileges during this time, including access to a television and a refrigerator.
