After a viral video depicted him soliciting money from a passenger, an official of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) posted at Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos has been relieved of his duty.
In the 50-second clip, the immigration officer is seen making an attempt to extort a foreign visitor by constantly soliciting that they offer a bribe. The passenger tried their best to evade this scenario, yet the authority figures kept insisting on his request.
The occurrence has resulted in extensive unease, inducing a rapid reaction from airport officials. Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), declared her astonishment and dissatisfaction towards the incident through an announcement, denouncing the actions performed by officer as “unsettling” and “inappropriate.”
