Immigration Officer Killed Amid Escalating Land Dispute

An immigration officer lost his life in a violent land dispute, raising concerns about the escalating tensions over land ownership.

Isah Mohammed, an immigration officer, was killed in a violent assault connected to an enduring land conflict between two communities within Niger State.

Individuals believed to be from the neighboring Kupafu community assaulted him on his farm, resulting in the incident.

The Doko and Kupafu communities have been engrossed in an unresolved conflict for several years as stated by the residents of Lavun Local Government Area.

At approximately 11:30 AM on August 14, 2024, the attack was confirmed by Wasiu Abiodun, a spokesperson for the state police.

Abiodun reported that Mohammed was attacked by angry young people belonging to Kupafu due to the land conflict currently at hand.

The officer became unconscious and was subsequently transported to Umaru Sanda Ndayako General Hospital in Bida, where he was declared deceased.

An investigation has been initiated by the police to capture those accountable for the assault and guarantee that fairness is delivered.

To avoid further escalation, a community member has urgently requested that both the police and state government take action.
