The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has requested all security agencies to monitor the movements of former Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello to prevent him from leaving the country through any borders.
In response to the EFCC’s request, the Nigeria Immigration Service issued an internal circular instructing its area and zonal commands to apprehend Bello if spotted.
The circular emphasized that the ex-Kogi governor is currently under investigation and there are concerns that he may attempt to flee the country to avoid prosecution.
The circular urgently directed, “I am directed to request you to place the above named subject on watch list with immediate effect. Subject has resisted arrest and arraignment therefore he may run out of the country anytime. Please accept the assurances of the CGIS’s warmest regards and esteem.”
The circular was also sent to the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Inspector General of Police, and other relevant authorities.
EFCC had previously declared Bello wanted for an alleged financial crime amounting to N80.2 billion.
The commission urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to report to the Commission or the nearest police station immediately.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the case against Yahaya Bello to April 23.
