“We’ll never give up on our country. All of our sacrifices become honourable deeds in its service, which is our greatest heritage, he remarked.
The recent MI-171 helicopter mishap involving the Nigerian Air Force, which resulted in the deaths of some troops, has prompted Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, to respond.
Obi, who expressed his sadness over the terrible tragedy, bemoaned the level of insecurity that still embarrasses and costs the country valuable lives and property, along with the resulting economic consequences.
He recommended doing a thorough inquiry to determine what caused the disaster in order to stop similar incidents from happening in the future.
The former governor of Anambra State commiserated with the Nigerian Air Force over the tragic tragedy and advised them and other security agencies not to be discouraged by the difficulties in a statement on his social media account on Thursday.
He further stated that his thoughts are with the families of the brave servicemen who perished in the incident.
“I am extremely disturbed by the terrible accident of the Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter when it was performing a casualty evacuation mission close to Chukuba Village in Niger State.
“The dreadful degree of insecurity in most of the nation has continued to shame us, cost us priceless lives and assets, with the ensuing financial costs. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the brave servicemen who lost their life in that catastrophe.
“I also truly mourn with the Nigerian Air Force over this tragic event and implore them and other security services not to be disheartened over the problems but to see them as our way to establishing a safe and secure nation.
“As a means of avoiding similar incidents in the future, I would also like to encourage a thorough investigation to be conducted to determine the reason of the collision.
