I’m Selfish – Chelle Admits After Taking Super Eagles Job
Newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Chelle, admits to prioritizing personal goals as he takes on the role. Learn what he plans to bring to the team.
Eric Chelle has acknowledged that his personal ambition drove him to leave MC Oran and accept the Super Eagles position.
Nonetheless, the 47-year-old has expressed his appreciation to the Algerian club and its supporters.
Chelle mentioned that he was enticed by the prospect of managing the three-time African champions.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced last week that Chelle will be the next coach of the national team.
However, the Malian managed MC Oran for his final match on Saturday, securing a 1-0 victory against USM Setif and advancing them to the quarter-finals of the Algeria Cup.
After the match, Chelle remarked: “I have the opportunity to join Africa’s top team and one of the world’s best. It’s true that I’m quite self-centered.”
“Once again, I extend my gratitude to the Algerians and the people of Oran for their warm welcome.”
Chelle is tasked with securing a 2026 World Cup spot for the Eagles, while also guiding them to victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
