Illness prevented Tobi Amusan from defending her women’s 100-meter hurdles title at the African Athletics Championship in 2024.
The current world record holder was going for her third gold medal in a row at this competition.
In the women’s 100-meter hurdles events held in Asaba in 2018 and Mauritius two years prior, Amusan won both times.

Amusan would have become one of just three African athletes to win three straight titles in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, together with Maria Usifo and Glory Alozie, had she participated and triumphed.
Adaobi Tabugo of Nigeria has already earned a spot in the final.
On Friday, the first day of the competition, Team Nigeria took home two gold medals.
