The National Hajj agency of Nigeria’s (NAHCON) newly appointed Chairman, Alhaji Jalal Arabi, has pledged to reposition the agency to align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
During his first speech to the commission’s management and personnel on Wednesday in Abuja at the Nigerian Hajj House, Arabi made the commitment.
“It’s time for us to start over on a new page. There is truth to the Renew Hope Agenda. I don’t have to dwell on it. It is real.
You are all aware of this, and I am confident that you can all attest to the fact that it was an honour to accompany President Bola Tinubu and those who spoke on our behalf when they travelled around with some of us.
At that point, it was pledged and even promised that things will improve. Of course, change is inevitable in nature.
And while you obviously wish to reposition yourself and go on, change must address the issues that have gone wrong. I feel I will need your support in this regard.
Arabi, who urged the personnel and management of the commission to work together, recommended those who are unwilling to make sacrifices for the commission’s success to quit.
However, a constitutional clause has been introduced; there is freedom of choice. You will be free to reject the style if you think you can’t handle it or that it is too formal for you.
We’ll even assist you in opening the door because we have a system and can take our time.
Arabi highlighted that managing the business of hajj was a trust. He stated that trust and sacrifice would be his guiding principles.
If we can all take a moment to think about it, the hajj is one of the core tenets of Islam and involves far more physical effort than any other practise.
Therefore, it is safe to say that we are the chosen ones since we were given the opportunity and privilege to come and take part in the execution of that duty.
And I believe it is a chance we shouldn’t let slip away. We have a mission and a vision, and I am aware that they have both been actively pursued in the past.
However, no matter what activity one is engaged in, there is always opportunity for development.
Alhaji Zikrullah Hassan, the departing chairman of the panel, had earlier congratulated Arabi and stated that Arabi had taken office at a crucial time.
Alhaji Nura Yakasai, the commission’s departing Commissioner for Policy, Personnel Management, and Finance, acted as Hassan’s representative.
“I want to take this chance to personally welcome Alhaji Jalal Arabi as the new chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on behalf of the personnel and management of the organisation.
At a pivotal moment, you enter the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). Why did I mention a vital moment? Actually, you arrived while the Hajj preparations for 2024 were already in full swing.
“Unfortunately, the period or time provided by the Saudi government this time is different from the usual one, when we have enough time to do anything we desire.
That will be arranged. You sadly have a very limited amount of time. I will only guarantee that you have a competent crew on hand that can help you achieve.
Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, the former chairman of NAHCON, Alhaji Aliyu Modibbo, the vice president’s office special adviser on general duties, and other dignitaries accompanied Arabi. (NAN)
