Ijaw youths have rejected demands for the removal of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, insisting that such calls are politically motivated and unnecessary.

The Ijaw Youths Network (IYN) has rejected calls for the impeachment of Senate President Godswill Akpabio in light of the ongoing controversy surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The group described the impeachment calls as unjustified, accusing some individuals with vested interests of trying to destabilize the Senate through the evolving situation.

We strongly condemn the unwarranted calls for the Senate President’s impeachment by paid agents driven by interests that are not aligned with patriotism.

“The IYN expressed firm opposition to any deliberate efforts aimed at creating instability in the Senate, suggesting it is not a suitable method for addressing disputes. This stance was articulated in a Thursday statement by its president, Frank Ebikabo, and secretary, Federal Ebiaridor.”

The organization highlighted the importance of fairness and transparency in handling the issue, expressing trust in Akpabio’s leadership skills. They urged Nigerians not to jump to conclusions before a proper resolution is reached.

The statement went on to say, “The Ijaw Youths Network (IYN) has been closely observing the ongoing situation between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.”

At this stage, transparency and objectivity must be the guiding principles in addressing the pressing issue that is distracting the Senate.

“We believe the issue should be handled transparently in the National Assembly, but we are concerned about what seems to be a conspiracy and a lynch mob accusing the Senate President of wrongdoing.”

The IYN emphasized Akpabio’s extensive history of leadership in the Niger Delta, noting that although they do not wish to prejudge the investigation, certain allegations seem unlikely.

Although we are not pre-empting the ongoing investigation, we feel compelled to express our strong reservations about the claim that the Senate President took Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to his home like a school child in an attempt to convince her for personal enjoyment at his residence.

As Senate President, Akpabio has access to any Senator and wouldn’t need to take such action in front of Natasha’s husband, who is also his friend.

The group urged Akpabio to stay focused on his legislative responsibilities amid the controversy and expressed their confidence in his ability to make decisions that benefit both the Niger Delta and the nation.

We strongly advise Nigerians to refrain from condemning the Senate President before the ongoing investigation is concluded.

We are confident in his capability to make the right legislative decisions for the benefit of both the Niger Delta and Nigeria.
