IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, has commanded a crackdown on the attackers who killed roughly eight security personnel in Imo State on Tuesday.

In the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, unidentified gunmen attacked and killed a number of security personnel on Tuesday, including police, soldiers, and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

The security officers allegedly died and were burned alongside their patrol car, according to a viral video.

The Police hierarchy denounced the attack and promised that those responsible will be found and brought to justice in a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

According to the statement, the attackers ambushed the victims as they were responding to a phoney distress call coming from the vicinity.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun has, however, reassured the public that the NPF is fully committed to working closely with other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this heinous act while tenaciously pursuing the cause of justice, according to a portion of the statement.

“He pledges that the Force will step up its efforts to apprehend the offenders, ensure the safety of our personnel, and ensure the security of our neighbourhoods while sincerely pleading with the public to maintain peace and vigilance.

In order to achieve peace and order in Imo State and other areas of the nation, he further asked the general population to work with law enforcement authorities.

In a similar spirit, Ag. IGP Olukayode Egbetokun sent his condolences and prayers to the families of the slain soldiers, promising that their loved ones’ efforts will not go in waste.
