IGP Takes Firm Stand as 4 Police Officers Detained for Alleged N10m Extortion

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has vowed strong action as four police officers are detained for allegedly extorting N10 million. The case highlights ongoing efforts to address corruption within the force.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, has firmly denounced alleged extortion incidents involving certain officers at Zone 16 headquarters in Yenagoa and is promising decisive measures against those responsible.

In a statement released on Friday by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was alleged that the police officers were extorting N10 million from young Nigerians.

The statement issued by Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., criticized alleged extortion activities carried out by certain police officers across various parts of the country. This particularly includes a recent incident involving officers from Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters in Yenagoa: ASP Emmanuel Ubong, Inspector Nse Okon, Inspector Adiewere Collins, and Inspector Kuromare Marine.

The officers were accused of extorting ten million Naira from a group of young Nigerians. The money has been recovered thanks to the efforts of the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing Zone 16, and the officers have since been detained and are undergoing an orderly room trial.

Under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police Force upholds a strict policy against corruption and police misconduct. The organization takes every accusation of extortion and abuse of power with utmost seriousness.

The Inspector General of Police has reassured the public that they will thoroughly investigate all allegations against officers accused of misconduct.
