Inspector General of Police Alkali Baba Usman has said that Assistant Superintendent Drambi Vandi should be fired for killing Omobolanle Raheem.
The suspension of the trigger-happy corps was in accordance with the internal disciplinary procedure of the force, according to a statement given to PlatinumPost and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to PlatinumPost, Vandi shot Mrs. Raheem at close range on Christmas Day in the Ajah neighbourhood of Lagos State.
The following is taken from the statement: “While awaiting the thorough investigation into the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, NEAPS, FDCC, and CFR, has recommended the immediate suspension of Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi, the officer attached to the Ajah Divisional Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command, who was responsible for the shooting and death of Barrister Omobolanle Raheem.”

The IGP says that the officer’s suspension is recommended because it is in line with how the Force handles its own disciplinary issues.
“The IGP further stated that the suspension is anticipated to foster an environment that will enable the required legal processes to uphold justice in the case without hindrance.” The constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of the officer is unaffected by the suspension.
“In the meantime, the IGP has reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the Rule of Law and reassured the public of his administration’s resolve to make sure that justice is not only served in this case but is also clearly seen to have been served.” The public is therefore urged by him to maintain their composure because everything is being done to guarantee that justice is served and precautions have been taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. IGP guarantees.
