Olatunji Disu has been named as the incoming Commissioner of Police for Rivers State by Inspector General of Police, or IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security, suppress violent crimes, and enhance the coordination of police operations throughout Nigeria, IGP Egbetokun has also selected seven police officers to oversee various commands.

A signal that had already been released and viewed by our newspaper contained the new appointments.

The statement states that the senior police officers would be redeployed right away.

The new CPs were given a task by the police chief to exhibit professional competence in the new offices they were given the responsibility of leading across the nation.

A week after Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara claimed that some police officers were trying to kill him when he went to assess the extent of damage done to the State House of Assembly after an explosion that significantly damaged the sacred chambers, the new CP for Rivers State will take CP Nwonyi Emeka’s place.

In addition, the State House of Assembly had attempted to impeach Governor Fubara, sparking days of protests by young people around the state that resulted in 150 teenagers being arrested and one juvenile dying from a police bullet.

Just seven months have passed since Disu and thirty-two other people were promoted from deputy commissioner of police to commissioner of police. He was then named as the IGP’s principal staff member, in charge of managing and supervising the security team that is stationed at the IGP’s office, among other duties.

Disu previously held the position of Deputy Head of the Unit in the State Criminal Investigation Department for Rivers Command and was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
